ATLAS introduction
ATLAS stands for Advanced Travel Logging Application for Smart phones, and has been prepared specifically for performing Travel Surveys. This application designed to record the travel route of the participants using the GPS tracking facilities on the device.

The purpose of this App
The main purpose of establishing ATLAS is to examine a methodology for performing Travel Surveys, using GPS-enabled smart phones. With installing this application on your iPhone, you will help us to improve the quality of Travel Surveys, which leads to more accurate transportation planning and management and better transportation facilities.

Participation and withdrawal
Installing this app and participation in this study is completely voluntary and you are free to withdraw from this study at any time without prejudice or penalty. If you wish to withdraw, simply stop completing the exercises and uninstall the app. If you do withdraw from the study, the materials that you have completed to that point will be deleted and will not be included in the study. The data is recorded on the device and, only with the consent of a participant, the travel record will be uploaded to a server. Participants have the option to delete their travel record without uploading.

What this application does
ATLAS is designed to record the travel route of the participants using the GPS tracking facilities on the device. The travel route will be recorded by recording the position of participant, X & Y, and the recording time. The data is recorded on the device and, only when a participant clicks the upload button, the travel record will be uploaded to a server. Participants have the option to delete their travel record without uploading. Participation in this study should involve no physical or mental discomfort, and no risks beyond those of everyday living. If, however, you should find any question or procedure to be invasive or offensive, simply stop completing the exercises and uninstall the app.

ATLAS is designed in a way that during the tracking process, you can minimise it and use other facilities of your iPhone. In the meanwhile, ATLAS uses a background mode for recording your position, which leads to consuming the battery life of your iPhone, and you may need to charge your iPhone during or after the tracking process.

Confidentiality and security of data
All collected data in this study, the collected data of both web-based and mobile-based surveys, will be gathered and linked together on a server, and those datasets which could potentially reveal the identity of the respondents will be coded by the course coordinator to protect respondents’ identity. Then all records, which will be de-identified, will be stored confidentially and only members of the research team will have access to the collected data.
